SARA HAS LIMITATIONS

21-06-11

COMMUNIQUÉ FROM “PROTECTOR OF ANIMALS AND PLANT ASOCIATION SARA.

One kid asked her mum: “Why Noah didn’t get all the animals in his Ark to save them?”
And that mother answered:” Because there wasn’t place for all of them.”

With this small metaphor we want try to give a meaning to this communiqué. Even though it could sound strange, Sara is something similar the Noah’s Ark. They have limitations. There are no more places free.
Their installations have capacity for 155 dogs and 60 cats. Even so they have more than
300 animals in care. In the last month the number of abandoned animal has increased. And we can not allow take more animals, which our installations can’t harbour.

All animals have their rights and we can’t infringe them because they are our responsibility. A crow of animals would involve increasing of infectious diseases, fight between the animals, stress for the cats, reproductions of pest infestation and of course much more time and dedication fro all staff to attend the correctly.
Raising the number of animals mean also huge expenses increasing, taking into account the gab of institutional help.

We just want to explain, there are protocols to follow to take any animal in but we are especially interested in the animal’s protection. Some time we meet incomprehension from the people they come to bring the animals. There are people they bring founded animals but there are unfortunately people who only want abandon their animals. Those animals were during years faithful to them but this is returned to them this way: (“If you don’t take this animal in, we have to put it to asleep!”)

That’s the reason we would like to ask for a comprehension and make all the population knowing that SARA HAS LIMITATIONS. And when somebody come to leave an animal, there are plenty of factor to evaluate.

- The first one is the space. They can’t invent it if there isn’t.

- In the second place you have to take into account the physical feature of the animal. It is not the same one small female or big male. The male have tendency to fight for the territory and could be not putted in every cage with the dogs they are already there. We have a waiting list for every zone. Some time they ask people to wait till there will be a place for them animals and some time it doesn’t take longer than two or three days. Based on numbers of adoptions or that animal feature.

- The thirds factor to consider is urgency that that animal has to come in. If somebody brings an animal in poor condition, mistreated or malnourished founding it abandoned on the street, this animal is treated and would stay in the hospital place till it gets better and could be adopted. SARA takes all the expensis of operations which is necessery to do and the later tratment.

This kind of situation is experienced so often that we want to publish them, because during all this years we have been in silence and have wanted to express our opinion, but we kept distance even we were upset inside, because all kind of excuses is very often just that – EXCUSES. We are tired hearing again and again the same story and even insults. We are tired getting to work and finding boxes full of newborn kittens next to the rubbish or dogs tided on our doors, or hit by cars because they were left close to the street, just because their owner didn’t care about very close distance of the street or dogs thrown through the wall (that’s why we had to make them higher) and the list could be much longer full of things that make us very sad.
But our love to animals makes us get over all that and continue fighting and it’s why we are the first who is really sorry from the deepest of our hearts when we have to say NO. In some occasions we are seen as the responsible for those animals future:”if you can’t keep it, we have to leave it on the street to be hit by car.” These are some of the sentences we have to hear. In other cases we have to hear:”if youd take it I have to abandon it.” But it doesn’t stop us from our work because we know that the only person who responsible is, is who took without responsibility the poor animal and decided to abandon it later.

We only are the point of balance that tries giving a new opportunity to all those animals that were abandoned. We say again:”WE CAN NOT SAVE ALL THE LANZAROTE’S ANIMALS.

Thanks to all volunteers, fosters houses (people that takes animal to their homes till in the shelter are places free)…. Thanks to all those people that support one way or an other our work… Thanks to them we will continue and we will not give up although there always will be incomprehension and irresponsibility from people they don’t respect animal live. We go ahead doing our work on the island but once more we ask for comprehension to can do a coordinated work and could follow a protocol.

“….And Noah sad that the last kind of animal that came to Ark had two legs…. It was a human, which as well wanted be saved.
