Pibul, a 21 year old cat in surgery due to a broken let

11-03-16

Pibul is currently our oldest cat, 21 years old!! It's unbelievable the strenght of senior cats. Pibul arrived to the shelter with a bleeding back leg, practically hanging. After a first examination we could tell that the leg was broken but x-rays were required to confirm it.

Here you can see the state his leg when he arrived:

So the following day Pibul were brought to an external clinic to have the x-rays done and to be able to assess the seriousness of the suspected break:

We were gobsmacked when we say the the x-rays of this granpa! His leg wasn't broken, it was SHATTERED!
It was broken in 6 plaes, poor thing, we can't even begin to imagine the pain that he must have been in...

After being able to see the results, what came to mind next was the big fear, will it be ok to undergo surgery due to his advance age? :(

So serveral vets checked him up, considering the options... but unfortunately the only one was: either he undergoes surgery or he will die :( and of course, we will not give up! So Pibul was brought to an orthopedic specialist to save the life of our oldest granpa of the shelter.

After several hours of surgery and a lot of anguish on our part... PIBUL MADE IT!!

We must admint that Pibul had a very low temperature during several hours after the surgery and we tried to raise his temperature with heat lamps, we feared that he wouldn't survive the postoperative. But that was a few days ago and Pibul is still with us!

It wasn't a simple surgery, external supports had to be put in place so all the bones in his leg could weld properly. These complex surgeries always represent a high cost for the Association, in Pibul's case the cost already amount to €400 aproximately.

Now our granpa needs a lot of rest and to try to recover, it would be great if he found a foster come, so if anybody is interested, all you need to do is to contact us :) It would be so much easier for Pibul to be able to recover than being here always in a pet carrier/cage :(

Let's help our seniors! Get well Pibul! Even if he seems to have a  grumpy  face it's only due to the surfegey, in fact this grandpa is ADORABLE!

If you would like to contribuite towards Pibul's expenses, you can make a donation to the following account in
La Caixa: ES53 2100 1510 33 0200154756 (mentioning "Pibul" as concept)
We already thank you! ^_^
